Direction and meaning
In the first instance, Direction originates from the top leadership teams’ development of the ‘Vision’ for their Business, and the subsequent Strategic Direction and Execution they believe is required to get there.
Although understanding and sharing a Direction is critical, how much your people really care about that direction (or how much 'Meaning' they find in it) will determine how successful your organisation will be in executing your strategy.
Whilst Direction and Meaning are usually recognised at board level, i.e. as 'Strategic Direction' and 'Engagement', we have found that little consideration is given to ‘Alignment’ within the leadership team, or within the entire organisation for that matter. How aligned your organisation is to your direction and meaning, the 'healthier' and more successful you will be.
